The Simplest Things

I received a card in the mail this weekend that blew my mind.  It was from one of my best friends growing up.  She only sent it to me because the front of it reminded her of us in junior high.  There was no birthday or big deal…just a card that basically said, I’m thinking of you.  I was coming in from a long day, sorting through a pile of more bills I can’t pay, and then the card.  It was just the best.

Enjoying a good old-fashioned game of Scrabble with my son and husband was another simple pleasure.  In this world where it feels like we cannot get away from everything being electronic or virtual…it was so nice to put the little tiles on the board and count word scores by hand.

A quiet cup of tea, an uninterrupted bath, and an unsolicited big kiss from the baby were all candidates for the the highlight reel of this weekend’s simple treasures.  Each time one happens, I feel like a little bell goes off in my mind to remind me to cherish them, and be grateful.
