Tell Them

It is no secret I miss my husband big time.  We are a few weeks in, the separation anxiety fading, and we are both trying to establish routines.  I bought a small digital video camera that is capturing many daily moments. I’m hoping  these will help sustain him and lessen the homesick sting.

It is the simple things that I have realized can be so hard.  I sat on the couch tonight with the kids and watched The Blind Side.  We all enjoyed it and talked about different things.  About half way through I thought, “I hate watching this without him.”  He loves football movies and will be a huge sucker for the story and let’s face it, Sandra Bullock kicks ass and takes names in this film, while looking super hot.  He is a big fan of hers.

I wanted to talk about it with him right then and there.   With 15 minutes left in the film, he called!!!  We paused the movie and gave him our undivided attention.  As always, it was so great to see his eyes and hear his voice.  He was tired, and I’m sure wanted to get right to sleep, but he made time for us.

I am not a fan of clichés, but am the first one to admit that they exist for a reason.  Absence does make the heart grow fonder.   With this absence also comes frustration.  We are all experiencing daily frustrations that sometimes we don’t even understand.

What I have realized is that from this frustration I’m finding gratitude.  Why?  We are spending a lot of time making sure we know how much we love each other.  Perhaps we should do this more when we are all together…instead of waiting for separation or crisis or a good fight to have to make up from?

Reminding our loved ones we love them constantly can only be a good thing.
